OUR ENGINEERING STAFF

Randy Sutton, P.E. President and CEO

Randy began SET in 2008 after having spent 20+ years in heavy industrial design at HMC Technologies, Vulcan Engineering Co., and most recently as Director of Projects for Power Automation Systems.

Randy has experience in detailed machinery design as well as the project management of large scale turnkey projects. He possesses strategic and managerial skills to help meet the customer's process and profitability objectives. He is a proven leader in any situation and is a methodical problem solver and solution generator for any opportunity.

Randy graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and finished his Masters of Engineering in the Information Engineering Management Executive Program at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2009. He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi and South Carolina. He is a member of NCEES and ASPE.

Barry Kornegay, P.E. Sr. Project Mgr / Business Development Mgr

Barry brings over 25 years of industrial and commercial design experience to the SET team. The majority of his experience was derived from 20 years of project and engineering management work at Vulcan Engineering Company, Helena, Alabama.

During his tenure at Vulcan, Barry was responsible for overseeing large turnkey and systems integrated projects in the metal casting industry. He is a strong team leader, seasoned problem solver and able to take conceptual designs and ideas and turn them into a viable industrial solution. Prior to his work at Vulcan he was a project engineer at Brownlee Morrow Engineering Company and Stockham Valves & Fittings, Inc.

Barry's project work in the past has included companies like General Motors, Caterpillar, Technocast, Wescast Industries, ME Elecmetal, Wheland Foundry, Conbraco Industries, Shelco Foundry and Machine, Grede Foundries, and a host of other industrial sites.

Jacob Carroll, Project Manager / Design Engineer

Jacob earned his BSCE from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2022. While receiving this degree, he worked full-time in our fabrication and assembly facility. Jacob brings a wealth of both engineering talent as well as hands-on experience to our design team.


Jacob is involved in the conceptual layouts for sales efforts. He also provides our customers with the ability and experience to produce workable layouts that provide solutions to their logistical needs. He assists in managing the fabrication and assembly of machinery as well as field support during the installation process.


Jacob is happily married to Gabby Carroll, and just welcomed a new, healthy baby boy to the family in October 2025.

Fred Brantley, Sr. Design Engineer / Manufacturing Lead

Fred brings over 40+ years of industrial and commercial design experience to the SET team. The majority of his experience derived from 30 years of project and engineering management work at Vulcan Engineering Company in Helena, AL.


While at Vulcan, he served as a team leader for Investment Casting, No Bake Foundry, and single equipment projects varying in size from $50,000 to $4 million. Duties included meeting with customers to define project scope, preparing project schedules, equipment layout drawings, capital equipment specifications, and purchasing. Today, Fred handles the bulk of mechanical design, project coordination, collaboration with purchasing, and manages manufacturing and logistics of the shop.


Fred spent time in the US Navy early in his career where he was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Electricians Mate First Class. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Mechanical Design from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Sina Vatany, Electrical Project Engineer

Sina received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in 2023. He brings exceptional leadership and problem-solving skills into the controls and PLC programming aspect of SET. He is also versed in robotic programming and other specialized areas of logistical controls.

John Shuttleworth, Electrical Controls Engineer

John brings to SET over 30+ years of electrical experience. This includes designing, building, operating, and maintaining automation and data acquisition systems for manufacturing, as well as overseeing budgets and delivering commissioned systems on schedule.


He has engineered and manufactured electrical equipment in industrial and commercial settings to meet or exceed NEC requirements and customer expectations. John has experience in building complex controls for standalone machines as well as writing/troubleshooting PLC programs and functionality. He brings to the table excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.

Jay Proctor, Systems Engineer

Jay earned his B.S. in Software Engineering from Mississippi State University in 2024. Jay is a valuable member of the SET team with skills in IT management, web design, and 3D modeling. He assists in many areas, including mechanical design, detailing, PLC programming/HMI design, troubleshooting, and manufacturing. Jay also manages the CNC programming and machining at SET, and brings experience in 3D printing. In addition, he serves as the SET Network Manager, ensuring business systems are reliable and secure, maintaining and troubleshooting servers, and monitoring backups.
