Our Engineering Staff

Randy Sutton, P.E.

President and CEO

Randy began SET in 2008 after having spent 20+ years in heavy industrial design at HMC Technologies, Vulcan Engineering Co., and most recently as Director of Projects for Power Automation Systems.  Randy has experience in detailed machinery design as well as the project management of large scale turnkey projects.

Randy possesses strategic and managerial skills to help meet the customer's process and profitability objectives.  He is a proven leader in any situation and is a methodical problem solver and solution generator for any opportunity.

Randy graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and finished his Masters of Engineering in the Information Engineering Management Executive Program at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2009.  He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi and South Carolina.  He is a member of NCEES and ASPE.

Randy has been happily married to his wife Teenya for almost 12 years and has three children, Jessica (22), Elizabeth (9) and Eli (7).  Randy and his family reside in Alabaster, Alabama where they are members of First Baptist Church, Alabaster.

Chris Sutton

Executive Vice President

Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of engineering, equipment manufacturing and project management services.  He is able to provide SET's customer base with revenue generating solutions to specific process needs through ASRS integration and custom equipment solutions.  Chris is able to design and manufacture both hard and flexible automation solutions for various industries.

Chris has managed automation projects in over a dozen countries on six continents and consistently completes his projects within budget and on time.  He also has extensive experience in integrating electric robots from different manufacturers such as ABB, Fanuc, Motoman, etc.

Chris attended both the University of Montevallo and The University of Alabama in Birmingham where he studied Engineering. He has extensive training in Computer Aided Design, including AutoCad and Solidworks.

Chris is happily married to wife, Misty.  They have three (3) children, Chelsie (16), Haley (4) and Hannah (2). Chrisand his family reside in Alabaster, Alabama where they are members of First Baptist Church, Alabaster.


Barry Kornegay, P.E.

Sr. Project Mgr / Business Development Mgr

Barry brings over 25 years of industrial and commercial design experience to the SET team.  The majority of his experience was derived from 20 years of project and engineering management work at Vulcan Engineering Company, Helena, Alabama.  During his tenure at Vulcan, Barry was responsible for overseeing large turnkey and systems integrated projects in the metal casting industry.  He is a strong team leader, seasoned problem solver and able to take conceptual designs and ideas and turn them into a viable industrial solution.  Prior to his work at Vulcan he was a project engineer at Brownlee Morrow Engineering Company and Stockham Valves & Fittings, Inc.

Barry's project work in the past has included companies like General Motors, Caterpillar, Technocast, Wescast Industries, ME Elecmetal, Wheland Foundry, Conbraco Industries, Shelco Foundry and Machine, Grede Foundries, and a host of other industrial sites.

Barry's system integration experience includes companies such as Didion Manufacturing, Carrier Vibrating Equipment, General Kinematics, ABP, Inductotherm, Ajax, ABB Robotics, and a vast of other OEM suppliers.   His has experience in Green Sand Molding, No Bake Molding, Lost Foam Equipment and Investment Casting facilities.

Barry is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He also holds a Masters of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.  Barry is a registered Professional Engineer in Kentucky and Pennsylvannia and has licenses in escrow in six (6) other states.

Barry has been happily married to his wife Paula for almost 28 years and has two biological children and two more by marriage.  Elizabeth Meany (daughter) and her husband Brian both serve as full time missionaries in Tanzania where Barry and his family facilitate Anza Imani Rescue Foundation, a 501C3 non-profit organization formed to rescue homeless boys from the streets of Mwanza, Tanzania (  Patrick Kornegay (son) and his wife Erin live in Killeen, Texas where Patrick serves in US Army, stationed at Fort Hood.

Rusty Rives, P.E.
Sr. Design Engineer

Rusty brings over 25 years of experience to the professional engineering staff of SET, Inc.  He obtained an Associates of Applied Science & Electronics Technology from East Mississippi Community College in 1986.  He finished his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University in 1995, and satisfied the requirements of a Masters of Mechanical Engineering at UAB in 2010.

Rusty's experience over the 17 years includes:

May, 2012- present: Sutton Engineering Technologies, engineer. Responsibilities include design of automated machinery, system layouts, and technical support.

March, 2010- May 2012: Hyperion Technology Group, systems engineer. Responsibilities include concepting, quoting, and design of automated machinery and mechanical design of research and development projects for industry and government.

October 2008- March 2010: Power Automation Systems, mechanical engineer. Responsibilities include design of equipment used in automatic storage and retrieval systems used in food warehouses and layout of systems. 

June 2005- March 2008: Vulcan Engineering, mechanical engineer. Responsibilities include design of automated equipment used in foundries, layout of foundries, and project engineering.
2004- June 2005: Holmac Corporation, mechanical engineer. Responsibilities include design of refuse handling equipment.

1996-2004: HMC Technologies, mechanical engineer. Responsibilities include design of automated equipment for manufacturing plants. Designs include metal cutting, metal forming, assembly, and test machinery. Also weld fixtures.
